Orange in United Kingdom is about to release a new messaging handset with a full QWERTY keyboard from LG. The handset is named LG Town C300. It is expected to be released in 2011. It is a low end messaging handset. It supports social networking and instant messaging applications. The Android handsets of LG are the ones that attract most users but many of them are interested in owning cheap and simple handsets. LG along with Orange has decided to release the handset in UK alone. So far there is no information about the release date.


The Town C300 measures 4.57 x 2.44 x 0.47 inches in dimension and weighs around 92 grams. The display is of TFT active matrix type and it measures around 2.4 inches. The display has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and supports 256 K colors. There is a portrait QWERTY keyboard in the handset. There is no secondary front facing camera in the handset. There is an optical track pad for navigation along with a couple of soft keys, a call key and an end key. The number keys are embedded on the alphanumeric keys with a red highlight.

The Town C300 has a 2 megapixel camera that is equipped with auto focus and digital zoom. It can capture images with a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. The camera is also capable of recording videos. The handset has only one camera that is at the back.The handset has a 3.5 mm standard audio jack, a micro USB 2.0 port for data transfer as well as for charging and a micro SD card slot that can support expandable micro SD or micro SDHC cards up to 32 GB. The included lithium ion battery provides a talk time of 11 hours and 32 minutes and a stand by time of 408 hours.


The Town C300 uses the Orange’s proprietary user interface. The Orange application store also provides certain applications such as Orange Push Email, Orange Maps, Orange Photo, Orange TV and Contact Back and Restore. The handset has a HTML browser that supports WAP 2.0 and XHTML. It has a FM radio by default. It comes only in black color. There is no in built GPS receiver or support. The phone book stores a maximum of 1000 contacts and the handset keeps track of the last 100 call records. The messaging menu supports the usual SMS, MMS and email features along with the push email and instant messaging features.

The Town C300 supports social networking options with the applications like Facebook, Flickr, etc. The music player that is in built in the C300 is capable of playing files with the MP3 and eAAC+ formats while the video player is capable of playing videos with the MP4 and H.263 formats. The organizer menu supports the usual applications such as clock, alarm, calendar, world clock, tasks, etc. The Town C300 supports 32 to 48 kbps GPRS of Class 10, 236.8 kbps EDGE of class 10 and Bluetooth version 2.1 with the A2DP technology. The handset lacks the Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.
